Teen Arrested at Prom for Skimpy Dress

This girl was turned away from the prom and then arrested for actin' a fool because she couldn't get in with her "custom made" prom dress. Marche's mama needs to have her behind whupped for letting her walk out of the house with that on. She's the one who should have been arrested. Now that's all I have to say. (read the story here)

UPDATE: SC Teen May Get Life in Prison for School Bombing Plot

It may sound more like a case involving a terrorism suspect, but a straight-A South Carolina high school student will face a charge of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. Ryan Schallenberger, 18, was arrested for allegedly plotting a suicide attack on his school in the small town of Chesterfield, S.C. He's seen here in court Tuesday. (source)

Schallenberger will be charged with federal counts of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, attempting to use explosives on a building that gets federal funding, and using interstate commerce to obtain explosives to be used against people and property. Authorities have said Schallenberger bought the ammonium nitrate off eBay and that company said it's cooperating in the investigation.

Schallenberger's mother and stepfather, Laurie and John Sittley, are "heartbroken," according to Sheriff Sam Parker."They were very concerned about his future education. I kind of explained to them and told them we've got to deal with two options here, we've got to deal with his education or with his life," Parker told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Tuesday.The Sittleys have not commented publicly on the case.

SC Teen Plotted to Bomb School

An 18-year old student in Chesterfield, SC is sitting in jail after being arrested for plotting to suicide bomb his high school. The whistle blowers: his parents (get them the Parents of the Year Award asap!). After a shipment of 10 pounds of ammonium nitrate, an oxidizing agent in explosives, was delivered to their home in Chesterfield, near the North Carolina border, Ryan Schallenberger's parents called police.

Schallenberger's journal revealed that he was sympathetic towards the two Columbine shooters and that he had been carefully and methodically plotting his attack for more than a year. The journal detailed his plans for a suicide attack and included maps of the school, police said. The writings did not include a specific time for the attack or the intended targets. He also left an audio tape to be played after he died explaining why he wanted to bomb his school. Police officials wouldn't detail what was on the tape except to say Schallenberger was an angry young man."He seemed to hate the world. He hated people different from him — the rich boys with good-looking girlfriends."

Dr. Phil Show Bails Out Jailed Teen in Videotaped Beating

Dr. Phil's show is out of control. Someone on his staff took it upon themselves to bail one of the teen girls accused in the recent videotaped, gang-style beating of another teen aged girl, out of a Florida jail. They posted bail for Mercedes Nichols, one of 8 teens accused in the vicious beating.

According to Dr. Phil's spokeswoman: "We have helped guests and potential guests in the past when they need financial assistance to come on the show... In this case, certain staff members went beyond our guidelines (re: the bail being paid)."

Now that the bad light has shown on Phil's show again, they have decided to cancel the whole story, citing that posting the girl's bail was a "violation of the show's rules." Yeah, Phil. They just had a nasty incident with Phil gossiping about his "counseling" session with Britney Spears.

The teens, whose ages range from 14 to 18, face kidnapping and misdemeanor battery charges. Three also face a felony charge of witness tampering. The state attorney's office says all will be tried as adults. They videotaped the beating so they could get a lot of hits (views) on either YouTube or MySpace.

It's obvious that the girl getting beat up has no sense of self-defence. We had this discussion over dinner today. Parents: in this new age of cyber-bullying and teen violence, what do you teach your daughters about defending themselves?

2 Year Old Dies After Being Beaten With Video Game Controller

Two-year old Darisabel Baez died after being beaten by her mother's boyfriend. 26-year old Harve L. Johnson admitted to using a video game controller to beat the toddler, but did not say why. He was already in jail on counts including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment and now the charge of homicide has been added.

The girl's 19-year old mother, Neida E. Baez, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child because she did not intervene or try to get help for the child.

Authorities say that due to the extent of the child's bruising, it is evident that this was not the first time she had been beaten. The coroner said that it was one of the worst cases of child abuse that he had ever seen.

Apparently, the mother heard the girl scream but didn't pay much attention until the boyfriend brought the girl to her limp and wet. He had attempted to revive her in the bathtub. (source)

Teen Tries to Flush Newborn Down Toilet at School

At first glance, I thought this was an update to the story that hit the news a few days ago about the 14 year old who gave birth to a stillborn baby on a Continental flight and put the fetus in the wastebasket. To my horror, I realized that this is ANOTHER 14 year old in Texas who has had a baby, except this time she delivered the baby alive in the Jr. High school restroom, heard him cry and then tried to flush him down the toilet, which killed him.

The girl was taken to a hospital. People who knew her at school said she wore baggy clothing, and nobody suspected she was pregnant, The Houston Chronicle reported Thursday.

School officials learned of her pregnancy when another student who was in the restroom while the eighth-grader was in labor went to ask the school nurse for help, said Kathy Clausen, spokeswoman for Baytown's Goose Creek school district.

Authorities have not announced what charges the girl will face, if any. She is too young to be considered for the death penalty.

14 Year Old Delivers Fetus in Airplane Restroom

*sighs*

I've reluctantly been watching this story develop all day. At first the airplane cleaning crew reported finding a fetus in the wastebasket about 15 minutes after the plane landed in Houston. Of course it wouldn't be difficult to find out who the mother was, considering they have a passenger log and in all likelihood the lady would still be at the airport (I know I've never been able to depart a plane and leave the airport within 15 minutes). Anyway, surely they could quickly locate the woman and find out what happened, right?

Well, sort of.

Finally we find out that the woman they were looking for turned out to be a 14 year old middle school student who was returning from a school trip in New York and reportedly didn't even know she was pregnant. Preliminary reports say that the baby was stillborn.

Everybody's concerned about having the race conversation and I agree that it's needed, but is anyone except me noticing that somebody needs to start having the teenager conversation? I've done a few posts in the last 2 weeks dealing with some heavy stuff concerning tweens and teens. It's reported in a recent study that 25% of teens have an STD, a 17 year old recently left her kids at home to eat cocaine while she went out to sell drugs on the corner, a 12 year old was just found working in a strip club...and more horrible reports concerning teens are popping up every day.

We're letting them grow up too fast. They have too many privileges, too much freedom, too much technology and no innocence. Will parents please start being parents again? Your children may hate you for it now, but they will thank you for it later.
