Two-year old Darisabel Baez died after being beaten by her mother's boyfriend. 26-year old Harve L. Johnson admitted to using a video game controller to beat the toddler, but did not say why. He was already in jail on counts including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment and now the charge of homicide has been added.The girl's 19-year old mother, Neida E. Baez, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child because she did not intervene or try to get help for the child.
Authorities say that due to the extent of the child's bruising, it is evident that this was not the first time she had been beaten. The coroner said that it was one of the worst cases of child abuse that he had ever seen.
Apparently, the mother heard the girl scream but didn't pay much attention until the boyfriend brought the girl to her limp and wet. He had attempted to revive her in the bathtub. (source)
